About Widows Care SL
Widows Care is a non-profit organisation founded by Mimunatu Bah to address the urgent and often overlooked needs of widows and their children in Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone. During repeated visits to the region, the scale of hardship faced by widows became impossible to ignore. Many women struggled daily to secure even the most basic necessities, including food and safe shelter, while carrying the full responsibility of caring for their children alone.
The loss of a spouse often leaves women without financial security or social protection. In the absence of a strong support network, widows in Kono District face heightened risks of homelessness, exploitation, social isolation, and long-term poverty. These challenges are compounded by limited access to community resources and safe spaces where women can seek help, guidance, or emotional support.
Widows Care was created to respond directly to these realities by building a safe, supportive environment where widows and their children can find stability, dignity, and hope. Through emergency housing, daily care, and a community support centre, the organisation aims to reduce vulnerability, restore confidence, and create a foundation for long-term wellbeing and resilience.
